Early Church History
[Syllabus]
The purpose of the class is to introduce students to the earlier events,
personalities, and prominent strains of thought in the early modern
European Christian Church and the movements often referred to as the
Renaissance and/or the Reformation. Special care will be taken to understand
the lasting effects of this period on our contemporary experience.

Students are introduced to the theory and practice of missions. In lecture
they will discover the biblical foundations of the missions endeavor.
Students will carefully trace the work of the apostle Paul to inductively
learn the principles that missionary used to take the gospel to the
Gentile world. Students will survey the history of the modern missions
movement and examine trends in modern missions.

Biblical Archaeology I: Old Testament

Students will be introduced to the specialty field of Biblical Archaeology
within the larger field of Archaeology, which is the art and science
of recovering and interpreting the material remains of the past. Fall
semester will focus on introduction and specific sites and finds related
to the Old Testament. Spring Semester will focus on sites and finds
related to the new Testament and the history of the early church.

will study the biblical examples of evangelism, with emphasis on the
biblical stories of evangelism to determine the patterns of evangelism

This course consists of a systematic study of the essential rules of
Italian grammar and vocabulary necessary for basic communication.

An analytical and doctrinal study of Paul's epistle to the Romans. Discussions
of the issues surrounding the purpose, meaning, and argument of the
text, the formation of epistles, methodology in analyzing such a document
and the relation of Romans to the church today.

Introduction to the History of Modern Thought in Philosophy
[Syllabus]
Dr. Paul Boling
This course is a brief introduction to philosophy, worldviews and modern
thought; Beginning with Plato and continue through the late Middle Ages
and the Renaissance. Examining knowledge and truth, as well as the Christian
worldview and how it contributed to modern thought and science. Looking
at dissenters and skeptics who challenged the accepted Christian view
of reality and God and who paved the way for modern thought. And discuss
what has happened to modernism and truth in our postmodern age.

New Testament Literature and Interpretation
Dr. Jud Davis
Historical overview of the books of the New Testament. Emphasis on the
theological unity and overall message of the New Testament as it climaxes
the biblical metanarrative; that appreciates each book's unique contribution
to New Testament theology; that discusses the basic principles of New
Testament interpretation hermeneutics and their practical application
within the genres of the new testament literature such as the Gospels,
parables, Acts (New Testament history), epistles, and Revelation (New
Testament apocalyptic literature).

Introduction to Joshua and Judges

An exposition of the books of Joshua and Judges, with particular attention
to literary genre, hermeneutical principles, ancient history and the
relationship of these Old Testament books to the rest of the Bible.

Acts and the Formation of the Church
Dr. Drew Randle
An historical and biblical overview of the birth and development of
the church, especially as it relates to the book of Acts and other New
Testament literature. Consideration will be given to a variety of historical
and contemporary ecclesiological issues.

Italian Renaissance Art
Dr. Mel Wilhoit
An exploration of the significant themes, artists, historical movements,
and forms of artists and their works during the Italian Renaissance.
This course will involve field experience.

Exposition of the Gospel of Mark
Matt Benson
An expositional overview of the Italian gospel of Mark, with special
consideration given to the genre of gospel literature, historical figures
in Mark, the life of Christ, and points of application for the contemporary
believer.

Excercise Health Science: Bocce Ball
Staff
An introduction to the game of bocce ball including its origins and
practice.

SBI Departmental Overview
Bible Department The Bible Department offers upper division elective
courses focused on the structure, interpretation, and application of
biblical text. A survey-level background is recommended for incoming
students.
Ministry Department The Ministry Department specializes in building
practical foundations for Christian ministry in a real missions environment.
Courses in evangelism, church planting, missions and pastoral ministry
are taught by highly experienced ministry professionals in the practical
context of Italian and Croatian missions and church planting.
Theology Department The Theology department offers upper division
elective courses in theology, historical theology, philosophy, apologetics
and related disciplines to students with at least one year of college
level theological studies background.
